Hi there! We got three letters today. One was four pages long. One was for his Grandpa. Ryan said that Platoon 1003 took 1st place in the knowledge test and second place (by 7 points)in the initial drill out of seven platoons. He told me if they get first place in the shooting they will be the Honor Platoon which is a lot of bragging rights until the last week of final drill. They were supposed to call home on Thanksgiving...but someone messed up and the DI's would not let anyone call home. Boy...was Ryan mad!! He said he has lost 19 pounds too. I can't even wonder what he looks like. He is normally 6'2 and 175 lbs. I hope you got a letter(s) if not I hope this tells you a little about them.
1mth 11 days!! Write me soon.
    Eileen

    Hi Ellen,
    Hi!

I did get another letter from Robert this week. He still sounds good and asked for some writing pens. Guess I'll go ahead and get some power bars to put in the box with the pens. Robert also wrote about the guys that messed up the Thanksgiving phone calls. He was not a happy camper either! Good news about the drill and written test scores. Hope they do well on the shooting range. Keep those DI's happy! He did say he had an upper respiratory infection during swim week but did manage to qualify at level 4. I think he's well now. He even mentioned family day for the first time so I think maybe he's starting to feel like he's going to make it all the way. I take that as a good sign. I'll be asking Santa for a phone call from my recruit! Maybe the slackers will get with the program by then. Only 6 more weeks 'til graduation. Let's hope it flies by.

    Talk to you soon, Lisa

Hi! how are you? I see that your son is in the same Co. and plt. 1003. I'm getting so anxious to see him! I bet you're feeling those same emotions! Have you heard any news on how they are coming along with the training? I haven't gotten a letter in a week but I know those guys are very busy at this time... I live in Andalusia, Al. Hope to hear from you soon!! ~Angie

Hi Angie! Nice to meet you. Great name - my daughter is also an Angie - she's 17 and my "baby!" I do miss my recruit bunches. Feels like he's been gone a long time but graduation seems such a long way off still. I haven't heard from Robert this week at all. He seems to write on Sundays but I figured that with initial drill happening last Monday instead of Tuesday, they wouldn't get much free time, if any, last Sunday. I'm hoping maybe he had a chance to write on Thanksgiving. I'd like to know how he's doing before he heads off to the rifle range for phase 2. Robert sounds pretty good in his letters but I think he's still struggling a bit emotionally. Guess that's normal? Wish he would write that he wants me to send something like power bars, cough drops, etc. So glad the DI wives try to keep us informed. I was happy to hear initial drill went well.

How's your son doing? What's his first name? Has he asked you to send anything yet? I'm glad Robert has a fellow southerner in the platoon! I was born and raised in Bradenton, FL - just south of Tampa on the west coast of FL. Where is Andalusia? I've heard the name before. Robert told me to watch what I say on the yuku site so this is probably a better way to get to know one another. I think we'll be able to "speak freely" here.

Looking forward to getting to know you and then meet you at graduation. Nobody else really knows what we are going through except others going through it or having been through it. I think I would really be a loon if I didn't know about this web site for support! The absence of contact except for USPS mail is getting old but I still faithfully write a letter every day even when I don't have much to say. Let me know what you hear from your son and I'll do the same. Do you ever go in the chat room on the site? If you do, let me know what time you normally go in it and I'll try to get in there with you.
